Traffic – Article 17. Truck Routes, Etc.

SECTION 13-114. TRUCK ROUTES- ESTABLISHED.

  1. There is hereby established within the Town of Tryon the following “Truck Route”
    1. Outside Origin; Outside Destination. All trucks entering the Town for destination points outside the Town shall operate only over the following designated routes:
      1. East or Westbound. When entering the Town from either the East or West on Oklahoma State Highway No. 105 and traveling in an Eastbound or Westbound direction through the Town, then said truck shall continue on Oklahoma State Highway NO. 105 to the City Limits.
      2. North or Southbound. When entering the Town of Tryon from either the North or South and traveling in a Northbound or Southbound direction through the Town, then said truck shall continue on to the City Limits.
  2. No person shall operate any truck or other vehicle exceeding a carry weight in excess of five (5) tons or in excess of two (2) axles at any time upon any streets in the Town of Tryon except those streets designated as truck routes, and except that such vehicles may be operated thereon for the purpose of delivering or picking up materials or merchandise and then only by entering such street at the intersection nearest intersection thereafter, and further except that Cherry Street between Main Street and 1st Street may be used when such vehicle enters upon such street for the sole and limited purpose of parking and storing trailers on the municipal easement located on the north side of Cherry Street.
  3. Tractors may be taken to the personal residence of the owner or operator of such tractor and may be maintained and kept at such residence provided such tractor is parked on private property and is not parked or kept on the public right-of-way.
  4. The Chief of Police maintains signs. The Chief of Police of the Town of Tryon shall cause all truck routes to be clearly sign-posted to give notice that this Ordinance is in effect.
    1. Failure to post. No person shall be charged with violating the provisions of this Ordinance by reason of operating a truck upon s street wherein truck travel is prohibited unless appropriate signs are posted at all entrances to the Town of Tryon.
    2. Weigh-in. The Chief of Police shall have the authority to require any person driving or in control of any truck or other vehicle not proceeding over a truck route or street over which a truck is permitted to proceed to any public or private scale available for the purpose of weighting and determining whether this Section has been complied with.
